Frequently Asked Questions
How does LLLT work?
The laser light reaches through the skin to stimulate your nerve endings to produce endorphins. Endorphins are produced normally by your body and are nature's own mood lifter and anesthetic. The endorphin production relieves the physical withdrawal symptoms of quitting smoking and helps keep you from feeling anxious or "crabby".
Who performs the session?
A Laser Technician
Is LLLT safe?
LLLT is a safe, painless, and medication-free treatment. It has been used in Canada and Europe for over 20 years with no documented adverse side effects. Many physicians respect laser therapy as a highly effective treatment. The FDA has classified low level lasers as “non-significant risk medical device.” The laser poses no health risk to the client provided that protective eyewear is worn.
Will this hurt?
No. LLLT is completely painless. In fact, most people describe an extremely relaxed feeling after being treated.
How long does the treatment take?
Treatment only takes about 20 minutes. Your first visit will include a personal consultation, so you should allow about an hour for that appointment.
How many sessions do you need?
A percentage of people that come to us, are good with just the one session. Other people need multiple sessions, before they are feeling that same level of comfort. The goal is to get back into the office for a follow up session, without having introduced nicotine back into the system. We offer 2 follow up boosters for 12 weeks at no charge.
How do you feel after the session?
The session is very relaxing and some people experience a degree of drowsiness.
Will I gain weight?
Weight gain is avoidable when quitting smoking with laser treatment. Studies conducted in other countries have shown little to no weight gain with LLLT.
Will my medical insurance cover the cost of laser therapy?
Since LLLT is not a medical treatment, insurance will not pay for it. However, the cost of many smoking cessation programs is tax-deductible. Check with your accountant.
Is the treatment guaranteed?
Nicotine addiction consists of two factors: the physical addiction and the mental addiction. The laser treatment is designed to relieve the physical withdrawal symptoms. If you have smoked a pack a day for thirty years, this means you will be making a huge change to your daily routine when you quit. Even if you experience NO physical symptoms, you will still think about smoking. Therefore, while we can not make a guarantee, we would like to see you succeed this why we allow 2 free booster follow up visits to be used within 12 weeks. Laser treatment + education + your commitment = a winning combination!
Are there any health conditions for which laser therapy is not recommended?
Yes. LLLT is not recommended for those who have tumors, active cancers or for those who are undergoing radiation or chemotherapy. If you have health concerns, consult your physician prior to treatment.
Is there anything I need to do before my first treatment?
You should drink 6-8 glasses of water per day, and decrease your caffeine intake for 3-5 days after the initial treatment.

Pregnancy and Smoking
The American Lung Association has warned that smoking during pregnancy can cause low birth weight, birth defects, and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. It also increases the risk of damage to your baby’s immune system. Low level laser therapy is not an option once you are pregnant so plan to quit prior to trying to conceive a child.
